Mowing on slopes

I will be purchasing a new B7800 with 60" mmm and FEL. I have been thinking about the usage of the tractor and am concerned about some sloped areas I have. The way the land is set up, the sloped area is about 300' long and goes right on top of a ditch. There are some high and low spots along the way, and some bare spots.(Do not know the degree of slope)

I have mowed this area with a riding mower and have to put a lot of lean on the high side. The 7800 being bigger and heavier than a riding mower deserves more attention. I would like to know how to judge if a slope is too steep before I mow with this new tractor. There is not trial and error here. Thanks again!!

I'm an inexperienced guy in the same situation as you are. When I shopped for tractors I found the dealer I wanted to buy from (JD 4310), then I asked them about safety on a couple of slopes we have around here. The dealer sent his most experienced guy out to look things over and make recommendations. This guy has nearly 50 years of tractoring experience and still has all his body parts. He looked things over and walked the hills then told me I should be fine as long as I go up and down and not sideways. Then he told me he would be the one to deliver the tractor and he would drive the hills first to show me how. The dealer makes all the difference!

I have a 600' or so bank where our driveway was cut into the side of a hill, not sure of the angle/% grade, but I know it took a lot of body english when cutting with my 3813 Honda rider mower. I tried out my new B7800 with 72" MMM on the same slope, and it was somewhat more stable. Given the weight of the MMM deck, the CG or your tractor is likely slightly lower than your mower - catch is your odds are much beter to walk away from a lawnmower rollover.
I agree that mowing up and down is the way to go where possible, however, in my case I have a fence at the top of the hill that prevents mowing in this manner. ....
